Mike Butcher was the longest serving member of the RSPCA inspectorate – working for the national society for 48 years.
As a Chief Inspector in the Special Operations Unit he fought organised animal cruelty, becoming an expert in the field of dog fighting and cock fighting and was responsible for the RSPCA’s successful prosecution of the Heythrop Hunt.
He won a coveted Animal Hero Award for his work and a succession of commendations over the years working nationally and internationally, weathering intimidation and death threats, to stop organised crime.
Despite the horrors and cruelty he saw Mike said he had the best job in the world, taking down the bad guys.
He was a legend in the RSPCA – but also Jenny’s husband and Stanley’s dad.
