About me

Leon came in on the 11th of November due to a change in circumstances. There was a toddler in the home that Leon became very uneasy around and they had to be kept separated. His previous owners felt he would be happier in a quieter home.

Leon is a shy boy to begin with and can be a little worried when meeting new people. Once he has made friends with you he is an affectionate, happy boy who enjoys attention. Leon is housetrained, knows how to sit and is used to being left for a few hours on his own. He loves to play with toys (especially his red bone and fetch with a tennis ball. Leon is looking for an experienced, adult home with someone who has dealt with behavioural problems before and is willing to work with Leon with support from our behaviourist. He cannot live with children or have any visiting children and will need his own, secure garden.

Leon does have some allergies (storage mites, dust mites and certain grasses). He is on tablets for this from the vets and his new owner will need to be prepared to continue with this. He will stay registered with our vet at the shelter and we will provide the medication. He had to have one of his eyes removed in 2022 due to injury but copes very well with one eye.

Here is some information from his previous owners:-

Leon has a great character, is very cheeky but also so loving. He loves to cuddle and be close with someone but also to play fetch with his favourite toy. He’s very healthy and doesn’t suffer with breathing, only when he’s been running around for too long with a new toy or chasing a ball over and over again! He loves to run, play and do zoomies!

Leon loves his red toy and panics when he cannot find it when he gets stressed or wound up. He always has access to this at home, it is not kept away from him. Loves to play fetch with it too. He will chew it and take chunks off of it. We have spares that we then swap out at this stage.

He is used to being crated at night and this is his safe space. In the summertime when it is too hot he sleeps downstairs with open access to all rooms so he can find a cool area. Leon likes to make himself comfortable so we have a blanket as well as his bedding and he will often ‘rhino’ his way under the blanket and wrap himself up warm During the day he has been used to the run of the house and likes to snuggle anywhere he can – human beds and sofas are his favourite.

Likes:

– Cuddles, close up against you, likes to back his backside into someone and cuddle that way for comfort. Especially in the evenings
– Gets cold so likes to be wrapped up in a blanket when he can be.
– Yak chews He likes these, but is best to be given to him for a supervised time and not left with these all the time.
– Antler Chew, much like above, needs to be supervised and not left
– Leon loves the sun and sunbathing. He will bake himself and then take himself indoors to cool down, then repeat the process.
– In summer we cool him down by throwing his red toy into a water paddling pool which he jumps into and coois down.
– Scratches at the bottom of his back/where his tail meets his back.
– Scratches where his collar sits. He will sit for ages having scratches here!
– Cuddling up with his piggy toy – supplied.

Dislikes:

– Hoses/water
– Brooms – will try to destroy
– Loud machinery like lawnmowers or hair dryers (or hoover). Will attack these
– Having his nails trimmed, will not allow this to happen
