About me
Rusty is a chatty Amazon parrot who arrived to us on 05/02/2025. He has been confirmed male, and he has also been vet checked and microchipped.
Rusty came to us due to the horrific living conditions he found himself in. He was in his previous cage for 20 years, and to our understanding, he was never let out of it or cleaned out. Since arriving he has had to slowly acclimatise to a completely new living environment, and although his conditions are now much improved, this can still be a lot for a parrot. Due to his previous conditions we are looking for a very experienced, knowledgeable parrot owner to take on Rusty. Rusty is very unfamiliar with hands, so other than having to handle him for vet appointments, he is not a handleable bird. Given his history, this may never change. As he has always known human companionship and living in a small cage, we think an aviary would be a far too stressful experience for him, as he is not adapted to outdoor aviary living. However, he will need a very large, spacious cage to live in, as that will be his safe space and he may not be comfortable leaving it. His new home will need to be adaptable to him, as should he ever decide that he would like to leave his cage he may then need his own room.
Due to our rehoming policies for parrots, applicants living in rented accommodation or flats (including ground flats), will not be considered. To avoid long and stressful travel times, Rusty’s new home will need to be within a 3 hour drive of the shelter (which is located in Brighton). Rusty will not be able to live with children, dogs or cats.
