Please read Rupert’s rehoming criteria thoroughly before applying as he is looking for a very specific home.
Rupert came to us in February 2021 via another rescue and instantly broke all of our hearts. We had never met such a shut down dog who feared human contact to such an extent. It took a long time for him to accept any affection and weeks for him to venture into the outside world.
Through patience, dedication and a lot of love Rupert has now blossomed. Due to his past experience he is still extremely anxious and nervous of new situations and probably always will be. He will need a home with someone who can commit the time and dedication to his continued rehabilitation.
Rupert now enjoys car rides, loves his walks in familiar places and really enjoys playing with toys. He loves other dogs and is happy to play with dogs of any size and sex. He knows sit and his name on command and loves food and treats. Rupert needs a home without cats or small animals as he would chase them.
Rupert is still very nervous and fearful when meeting new people and it takes a few meetings before he is happy to accept treats from them. He will need a very patient owner who will allow him to take things at his own pace.
Please be aware that Rupert is not small, he weighs around 30kg and can be quite strong on the lead.
Rupert will need:
A quiet, calm home in a rural location and a large, secure, private garden.
Someone with bull breed and nervous dog experience.
An adult only home. He cannot live with children or have any visiting children.
Ideally, a resident dog (larger, female, playful dog as he does play rough!)
A car for travelling to quieter places for walks.
An owner who is willing to commit to shelter visits over a period of weeks prior to adoption.
if you think you can offer Rupert the lifestyle he is looking for and commit to his ongoing training and rehabilitation please email the shelter firstname.lastname@example.org
